Female Form
My admiration for the beauty and grace of dancers has deepened my interest in distilling the essence of the female form. My aim, to capture the mobility, rhythms, fragility, strength and sensuality of woman. The girls with whom I work hail from all walks of life, some are models but many have ordinary lives and jobs where they have no need to expose themselves to a critical eye. It`s a matter of delicate negotiation as to how much of their bodies or themselves they would like to reveal.
The following represents some recent collaborations and the work that emerged.
THE NUDES COLLECTION
For centuries the female nude has been the cornerstone in figurative fine art. `The Nudes Collection` is a contemporary take on the classical form. A subtle colour key creates a calm ethereal balance of graphite and charcoal studies and oil on canvas paintings.
NATASHA The epitome of a young women of the new century, and my muse and model for the journey we shared in the creation of this body of work.
CABARET Conceived as a homage to the film genre, first brought to the big screen in 1972 with Liza Minnelli in the lead role as Sally Bowles.
JEANNE D`ARC Depicted by artists over many centuries as conqueror and martyr. I was anxious to reflect, at least in part, a modern, feminine and vulnerable girl.
MELISSA SERIES An endeavour to capture a little of the essence and spirit of emerging womanhood
DÉSHABILLÉ `Undressed` - a series of work originally commissioned by an American collector, depicting a young women at the turn of the century.
DARK ANGEL A body of nude and semi-nude work portraying the beauty and sensuality of black women.
